Unequal Mates Within Their Holy Vows

A liquid bead upon a spider's thread
Within her sparkling eyes reflects the one
She waited for all night: the yellow sun --
And in response he turns his shining head.

Unequal mates within their holy vows
Enjoy a fleeting equipoise; they tend
Their love with care, and yet it still must end
More swiftly than the blossoms on the boughs.

After she is swallowed up in mist
Will she recollect herself once more
Upon some tropical and distant shore
To face the sky while waiting to be kissed?

Whether she will rise again to sing
Her praises to the sun, she does not know,
Yet does not grieve, nor hesitate to go,
But simply trusts whatever love shall bring.
